Academic Information
IHTTI combines the excellence of traditional Swiss Hospitality and Tourism education with international standards of business and management training.
IHTTI’s academic programme focuses on Hospitality and Tourism Management. The curriculum covers all relevant aspects of hotel management and includes practical training in operational areas.
Official Language
English is the school’s official language and all classes are conducted in this language. Students are expected to use English throughout the working day.
English Foundation Programme
Through the SEG English Foundation Programme students can improve their English skills before starting their hospitality programme.
Foreign Languages
Foreign languages are vital skills in the hospitality industry. The school offers 3 language options as part of its educational programme. As the school is situated in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, and internships will primarily take place in either the French or German speaking parts of the country, Year 1 students will be assigned to French or German language modules.
As a third language option, Spanish modules are made available to Year 2, 3 and PGD students, whose internship is more likely to take place in an International context, outside of Switzerland.
Spanish is also available to students who have been exempted from either French or German language modules.
Guest Lecturers
IHTTI frequently invites guest speakers to give lectures on hospitality related topics.
Libraries
Books, periodicals and journals on hospitality and related topics can be found in the school library. The library is well stocked with up-to-date resources.
Students can also obtain a Neuchâtel library card, which entitles them to use the city’s University and public libraries.
Students enrolled in the third year BA programme also have access to the University of Derby’s library and online database system.
Students also have free access to a wide range of electronic databases, which store thousands of academic and industry articles.
Class Size
Small classes allow intensive interaction between lecturers and students and ensure a high level of personal attention to each student.
Paid Internships
The internship is an integral part of the academic programme. Years 1 and 2 include a 4-6 month paid internship in Switzerland or abroad*. The IHTTI Internship office arranges the first year internships and supports students in finding a placement in the second year. The internship office monitors all internships.
Students completing an internship in Switzerland receive a gross salary of CHF 2’168.- to CHF 2’450.- per month. Deductions for food, taxes, accommodation and insurance are approximately CHF 1,000.- per month.
For students who wish to complete their internship abroad, IHTTI School of Hotel Management must approve the international employer. *International internship salaries vary depending on the conditions in each country.
Graduation
The IHTTI Graduation is a biannual event that is traditionally held in the historic grand Château of Neuchâtel, the governmental seat for the Canton of Neuchâtel.
